Chime reported a 32% year-over-year surge in third-quarter revenue to $718 million, driven by rapid adoption among consumers earning at least $75,000 annually, according to financial details disclosed during an earnings call on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026. The digital banking platform saw direct deposit growth accelerate for a third consecutive quarter, helping push originations in its Instant Loans product to $381 million. The growing influx of higher-income users is reshaping Chime's business model as the company expands deeper into consumer credit and financial services.

What happened

Chime's third-quarter revenue growth of 32% marked an acceleration from the 27% growth rate recorded in the second quarter. Platform revenue climbed 52%, anchored by strong demand for short-term credit products such as MyPay and Instant Loans. To capture more of this activity, Chime doubled MyPay's maximum advance limit to $1,000, with the largest limits allocated primarily to members in its Prime tier.

During the quarter, Chime added about 500,000 net active members, bringing its total member base to 10.9 million—a 20% increase compared to the same period a year earlier. Consumers earning at least $75,000 a year became Chime's fastest-growing demographic of new user sign-ups.

"These folks are signing up for direct deposit at a faster clip, and a greater percentage of them are doing $3,000 or more of deposit in order to qualify for Chime Prime," CEO Chris Britt said during the analyst Q&A on Wednesday's call.

Key metrics and credit performance

Securing recurring direct deposits provides Chime with real-time visibility into account inflows and outflows, allowing the company to evaluate risk and facilitate automatic loan repayments. Chime President and Interim Chief Financial Officer Mark Troughton noted that higher-earning members are seeking higher borrowing limits, which Chime intends to adjust selectively.

The expansion of borrowing features affected credit metrics during the quarter. Key operational figures from the quarterly results include:

  • Instant Loan Originations: Originations rose about 30% from the prior quarter to $381 million.
  • Credit Loss Rate: The loss rate for Instant Loans increased to 6.3% as more Prime members borrowed for the first time.
  • Repeat Borrower Performance: Annualized loss rates for repeat borrowers were up to 50% lower than for first-time borrowers.
  • Member Monetization: Prime members generate more than twice the revenue of the average active member.

Troughton said he expects another small increase in the credit loss rate during the current quarter. Meanwhile, customer acquisition costs fell quarter-over-quarter as Chime refined its marketing allocation and bundled features across its Plus and Prime membership tiers.

What this means for consumers and account holders

For middle- and higher-income consumers using digital banking platforms, Chime's pivot highlights a broader industry shift toward integrated credit products tied directly to payroll accounts. Existing and prospective users who set up direct deposits of $3,000 or more can access Chime Prime, unlocking larger borrowing capacities and additional account features.

Chime's product structure separates short-term and medium-term financing options. MyPay is designed to bridge financial gaps between paydays, whereas Instant Loans feature structured repayment periods ranging from three to 12 months for larger expenditures. However, as credit limits expand, consumers should monitor their overall debt commitments, even when repayments are automatically coordinated through direct deposit allocations.

What happens next

Following the third-quarter performance, Chime raised its fourth-quarter revenue forecast to between $757 million and $767 million, representing projected year-over-year growth of 27% to 29%. Investors reacted positively to the update, sending Chime's shares up 6% in after-hours trading on Wednesday.

Looking ahead, Chime plans to launch several new offerings to sustain top-line momentum. As companies review strategic initiatives like how to grow your business during economic uncertainty, Chime is building out an employer distribution channel. Supported by an expanded partnership with Workday and plans to introduce a pay card, management expects the employer business to contribute meaningfully to member growth in 2027.

Additionally, Chime is testing an unsecured line of credit with Prime members and expects to launch an unsecured credit card next year. On the technological front, the company is developing Jade, an artificial intelligence personal finance assistant, along with control tools allowing members to manage how third-party AI agents interact with their bank accounts.
